About Us
The LBX Fly-In Aviation Scholarship Program has been established to encourage and support aspiring aviation professionals through educational scholarships recognizing achievement, leadership, integrity, perserverance, community involvement, and financial consideration.
The scholarship reflects the mission of the LBX Fly-in by investing in individuals who demonstrate a genuine passion for aviation and a committment to strengthening the aviation community.
The Committee is asked to approve:
- Establishment of the LBX Fly-In Aviation Scholarship Program
- Three annual scholarships valued at $2,500 each
- Standardized online application process
- Scholarship eligibility requirements
- Evaluation rubric
- Committee review procedures
- Scholarship Timeline
- Official recognition of recipients during the annual LBX Fly-In
Approval establishes a consistent scholarship program designed to grow alongside the LBX Fly-In while providing meaningful opportunities for future aviation professionals.
Annual Timeline
Scholarship Funds and Usage
Recipients must begin their approved aviation education or training and utitlize a portion of their scholarship funds within six (6) months of the award date. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the scholarship, allowing the funds to be reallocated to future recipients.
Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s aviation training provider, educational institution, or approved program and will not be distributed directly to the recipient. If a recipient changes training providers or institutions, they must notify the LBX Fly-In Scholarship Committee so that any remaining funds can be transferred to the new approved provider.
The December 31st deadline allows the Committee to complete review and selection before the most intensive period of Fly-In preparation.

Personal Statement Requirements
Applications will submit one personal statement of 300-1,200 words. Rather than answering a series of disconnected essay questions, applicants are encouraged to tell one cohesive story that helps the Scholarship Committee to understand who they are and where they hope to go.
The statement should address:
- What inspired the applicant's interest in aviation
- Long-term aviation goals
- Meaningful challenges or obstacles overcome
- How the scholarship would impact the applicant's future
- How the applicant hopes to give back to the aviation community
We want to know who you are, not just what you have accomplished.
Financial Consideration
Financial circumstances are one of several factors considered during the scholarship evaluation process. Financial need is not the sole determining factor in the selection of scholarship recipients.
- I would like the Scholarship Committee to consider my financial circumstances as part of my application
Applicants who select this option will be asked to briefly describe how receiving the LBX Fly-IN Aviation Scholarship would impact their ability to pursue aviation education, training, certification, or career goals. The Scholarship Committee may request additional information or documentation when clarification is necessary. Applicants are not required to submit financial documentation with the initial application unless specifically requested.
Any financial information or supporting documentation will be treated as confidential and used solely for scholarship evaluation.
Committee Guidance
Financial consideration should be evaluated as part of the applicant’s overall story and circumstances. It should not automatically outweigh aviation committment, character, leadership, perserverance, or the overall strength of the application
Committee Review & Section Process
The Scholarship Committee is responsible for reviewing eligible applications and selecting scholarship recipients in a fair, consistent, and confidential manner.
Application Review
- Applications are reviewed for completeness and eligibility
- Complete applications are assigned an application number for tracking
- Committee members retain access to applicant identifying information
- Each eligible application is evaluated using the approved rubric
- Each of five (5) Committee members reviews and scores applications independently before final discussion
- Reviewer scores are recorded and combined to establish an overall score
- The Committee meets to discuss the strongest applicants and select recipients.
Holistic Review
The numerical rubric is an important tool, but it is not intended to replace thoughtful committee judgement. No single factor should automatically determine whether an applicant receives an award.
Final Selection
The Committee will select three scholarship recipients and may identify alternate recipients in ranked order. Final selections should be documented in the Committee Records.
